MAHANAKHON POP & SPICY has been created from the fusion of the vibrant and lively character of Bangkok, a city that is never dull or boring, with a touch of playfulness and a unique twist. It takes the familiar elements of things, places, food and the Thai ambiance that locals are accustomed to and converts them into something different, comical and entertaining for visitors. It transforms the charm of Bangkok that captivates tourists and offers a whole new and extraordinary experience for both visitors and locals alike. The distinct concept combines dazzling patterns and colors with a pop and spicy flair, incorporating cutting-edge interactive media technology to create an unconventional and dynamic experience. The event features a total of five exciting elements, with each one guaranteeing fun for all.

LIGHT OF BANGKOK NIGHT

This showcases the spectacular illuminated nightscape of Bangkok, known as the city that never sleeps, combined with interactive technology. Visitors can enter their names and select popular locations in Bangkok such as Khao San Road, Chinatown or Yaowarat and Silom and their names will be displayed on illuminated signs, allowing them to take the best photos ever and enjoy the brilliant atmosphere of the lights and graphic images on the screen. There are three rotating themes for visitors to enjoy:

  • Khao San Road: A colorful and lively Thai-style atmosphere in a neighborhood that is alive 24/7.
  • Chinatown or Yaowarat: The unique charm of Thai-Chinese heritage with a beautiful nighttime ambiance.
  • Silom: The bustling and pulsating nightlife entertainment district.
HELLO SAWASDEE

This invites visitors to discover the unique and distinctive items of Thailand through an augmented reality (AR) camera installed near the screen. Visitors can have fun with various items that will appear on themselves, such as flower garlands, traditional Thai fans, Thai silk or even coconuts. What will be your favorite item?

POP CULTURE MACHINE

This showcases animated stories on a curved screen that highlights famous Thai cultural elements, including traffic, tuk-tuks, motorcycles, food and even the local iconic Thai energy drink. Visitors can participate by scanning their faces, and their faces will then be incorporated into the animated scenes on the curved screen, continuously changing and providing an ever-changing experience. Yes, you too can be an animation star!

DANCING SHADOWS

This fun element takes place in the central area, where projectors create colorful shadows and dancing movements on the floor. These shadows perform Thai-style dances, inviting visitors to join in the fun and show off their own exceptional dance moves.

THE HIDDEN MAHANAKHON

This is the highlight of the whole installation and represents the wonderful uniqueness of Thailand. Items such as water bowls, sticky rice steamers, plastic chairs and traditional Thai umbrellas are arranged from the ceiling, creating a delightful spectacle of stunning colors. However, as visitors continue to walk, they will discover that the arranged items form the word "MAHANAKHON."

SAWASDEE LAMP BY SARAN YEN PANYA

Lastly, there is a special zone at King Power Mahanakhon where Khun Saran Yenpanya, a contemporary Thai artist known for his lively and colorful paintings, has designed a work titled "Sawaddee Lamp" or "Nang Wai Lamp" using mixed media techniques including hand-carved wood, high-gloss paint and Thai silk lanterns. Featuring objects that Thai people are familiar with, his work highlights stories of identity, spirituality and the intersection of tradition and modernity.
